Privacy Policy and General Terms of Use

Information on CyberMentor
CyberMentor is a joint project of the University of Regensburg and the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen–Nuremberg. The project is funded by various companies (e.g., Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, SAP SE, Siemens AG), the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung, and the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

CyberMentor aims to increase the participation of girls in STEM fields. For one year, each participating female pupil is accompanied by a personal female mentor who is professionally active in business or science in the STEM field or who is studying a STEM subject. Two mentoring dyads always form a CyberMINT Community. The participants communicate via e-mail within a protected and moderated internet platform, where participants have access to profile pages, discussion forums and chat rooms. In addition to the web-based offer, excursions can also be organized by female mentors. This information is voluntary and, in the case of minors, requires a separate declaration of consent from the legal guardians.

Information on CyberMentor Plus
CyberMentor Plus is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and offered at selected schools throughout Germany that participate in the federal–state educational initiative "Leistung macht Schule". CyberMentor Plus aims to integrate the mentees' school environment into STEM support. For this purpose, the online mentoring program is combined with an additional school-based offering. At the participating schools, STEM-subject teachers run weekly STEM clubs offered especially for CyberMentor Plus mentees, where the school's mentees can network and carry out projects together.

Information on the Junior Engineer Academy (JIA)
The Junior Engineer Academy (JIA) is a program of the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung (DTS). It is a technology-oriented compulsory elective subject for 8th and 9th grade offered at selected network schools nationwide (independent of CyberMentor). As part of the DTS-sponsored cooperation between JIA-schools and CyberMentor, STEM-subject teachers conduct weekly STEM clubs specifically for CyberMentor mentees where mentees can network and participate in workshops. In this way, sustainable STEM support can be achieved even before the Junior Engineer Academy.

Information on FösaMINT
FösaMINT is a research project of the University of Regensburg and the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen–Nuremberg for the "promotion of school–extracurricular STEM cooperation with a focus on gender" which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). One aim of FösaMINT is to explore the conditions needed for achieving successful coordination of extracurricular (e.g. CyberMentor) and school-based STEM-support offerings. The FösaMINT project is independent of CyberMentor. Participation in CyberMentor is possible independently of participation in FösaMINT.

Registration
Registration is required for participants to use the services of CyberMentor. Girls in grades 5 to 13 as well as women who are working in a STEM field or studying a STEM subject are eligible to participate. By registering, prospective participants undertake to provide correct and complete information and to update this as soon as something changes. CyberMentor is entitled to request proof that provided information is correct at any time. To ensure that only authorized persons (girls and women) register, the identities of all participants will be verified using appropriate proof. The identity will be verified within 7 days of receipt of the proof. After that, the proof of identity will be destroyed. This measure serves the security and protection of the data of participating persons. The proof of identity of the participants (mentees) of CyberMentor Plus is provided by the supervising teacher at the school. Registration does not constitute a legal claim to participate in the CyberMentor program.

Online Privacy Policy CyberMentor Platform for Mentees and Mentors
The following privacy policy applies to the use of our CyberMentor platform for mentees and mentors (hereinafter participants) in the CyberMentor and CyberMentor Plus projects (hereinafter CyberMentor).

  1. To register for CyberMentor, it is necessary to provide personal data to (1) find a suitable mentoring partner and CyberMentor Community for you, (2) avoid misuse of the platform and (3) contact participants. The legal basis for processing your data is your consent within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These data cannot be viewed by other participants or third parties. You can use the services within the CyberMentor platform (discussion forums, chat, profile pages) under an individual user-name, which can also be changed on request (support@cybermentor.de). The personal details associated with the user-name are only known to the administration and are only brought together and used for the purposes listed above. Only your user-name is displayed within the CyberMentor platform itself. If personal data is entered voluntarily on the platform, other participants of CyberMentor have access to it. Only participants (after identity verification) and CyberMentor employees have access to the protected platform.

  2. When you visit pages on the CyberMentor platform or request files via the platform and are asked to provide data about yourself, the data transfer via the Internet is carried out using 256-bit SSL encryption (Thawte SSL 123 certificate 256-bit - domain validated).

  3. Your collected data will be treated strictly confidentially and will not be passed on to third parties. They will not be used for any other purpose than for the CyberMentor project.

  4. You have the right to receive information free of charge about the personal data stored (by you) about you. Furthermore, you have the right to data portability. You also have the right to have incorrect data corrected, blocked, or deleted. Furthermore, you have the right to revoke your consent at any time. The revocation of consent does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out based on the consent until the revocation. Such a request must be made in writing; this is the only way to establish the identity of the person requesting information. In the case of underage participants, the right to information is asserted by the legal guardians. If you send us an e-mail, your e-mail address will only be used for correspondence with you. It will not be used for any other purpose or shared with third parties.

  5. Visits to our website are recorded anonymously. The storage serves internal statistical purposes. The date and time of the request by our device, the amount of data transferred, the desired access method, the web browser used, the input values transmitted (file name, ...), the status message of the request (successful, file not found, ...) and the name of the requested file are logged. The IP address of the computer from which the request was sent is not stored.

  6. Surveys of CyberMentor participants are conducted at unspecified intervals. The data collected are stored and analyzed anonymously. The surveys are used to evaluate and improve the program. Similar surveys are also conducted at schools participating in the FösaMINT research project. Although the surveys and processing of personal data on FösaMINT and CyberMentor take place separately, the participating schools and FösaMINT are informed about their participation in CyberMentor. This serves to avoid duplication of surveys.

  7. When you participate in CyberMentor and log in to the platform, we store so-called session cookies on your device, which are only valid for the duration of your visit to our website. These are needed to identify and authorize you for the entire duration of your visit after you have successfully logged into the protected area. At the end of your visit, these cookies are automatically deleted from your device.

  8. If you notice that someone is breaking the rules or you feel harassed by other participants, you can contact us at any time. Please contact: support@cybermentor.de. For questions about data protection, please contact: dsb@ur.de

Liability
CyberMentor is liable for culpable damage in the event of a breach of essential contractual primary obligations (cardinal obligations). Beyond that, CyberMentor is liable—no matter for which legal reason—only (1) for damages from injury of life, body, or health, (2) according to the product-liability law, (3) in case of acceptance of a guarantee of quality, or (4) if the damage was caused intentionally or in a grossly negligent manner by legal representatives or vicarious agents of CyberMentor. In case of a slightly negligent violation of essential contractual main obligations (cardinal obligations), CyberMentor is liable at most up to the contract-typically foreseeable damage, but not for indirect damage.

Changes in the General Terms of Use
CyberMentor reserves the right to change the general terms and conditions of use in part or in full at any time, provided that this does not result in any unreasonable disadvantage for the participants and STEM-club leaders. Registered participants and STEM-club leaders will be informed of changes to the general terms and conditions of use by e-mail before the new terms and conditions of use come into force; a reasonable period of notice will be given. Participation in the CyberMentor program can be terminated if one does not agree with the new terms of use. In the case of minors, a written declaration of consent from their legal guardians will be required in the event of changes to the terms of use.

Final Provisions
For all legal relations of the contracting parties that result from the use of the services of CyberMentor, German law applies. Should individual provisions of these terms of use be or become invalid in whole or in part, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
